Michigan Lake Towns.

There is something about Michigan lake towns. There is always this light breeze in the air and a feeling of reminice mixed with enlighted joy and contentment. There are few things I like more.

I love walking along them -- from Holland to Grand Haven to Saugatuck to Traverse to South Haven to everywhere in between -- and strolling through their clamored streets patchworked with shops and cafes and coffee houses. I love the padding sound of my flip flops, the sway of my skirts and dresses, and the laughter and beauty of the conversations that flow there between friends.

Truly there is little I like more than Michigan lake towns. These summer cottages mimicking days gone by and carrying on the tradition to the new generations now covered in sand themselves. I love the equalibrium that happens there -- that no matter how much money or success a person has earned, everyone is dressed alike -- in old favorite T-shirts, a swimsuit, and flipflops. Every once in a while, a person tots a hat, sunglasses, cigar, glass of wine, or isolated Crystal Light. But they are all basically the same. Here for the the chill, the fun, the water.

And I love the water. Speckeled with people, tourist and neighbors alike, the beaches reach right into the sea by way of towering lighthouses and stretching peers. People meander through them, barefoot along the concrete or sand, casting for fish or boys or women. But all alike, just having a good time and letting the place have them.

Michigan lake towns. Nothing like them, and nothing I like more. :)
