The other day I heard my sister Kelly asked my two-year-old nephew, "Jaxson, did mommy tell you today that I love you?" He nodded "yes" and went about his business as she still reassured him of her love.
This was a gift from my mother, now passed down through generations. The assurance of her love. Whether because it was just because she was herself, or because she lost her parents when she was young, I don't know. But I do know that we were always rest assured of our place in her love.
Whether paying bills at her stooled chair, driving to get groceries, or just creating dinner, she would do this... Everyday. All day.
I always heard her ask and she would always say, "Have I told you today that I love you?"
No matter my response, she would still answer with the assured, "I love you."
