The Remnants.

Popcorn bags, Dorito chips, and wine glasses are strewn about. Cookies sheets set by the sink and more dough is in the freezer. Half-empty mugs of coffee, tea, and hot cocoa polka dot the table. Blankets rest upon the armchairs, nail polish next to magazines, and laptops and a mostly-eaten box of Jelly Bellys. Seasons of the Gilmore Girls loop all hours of the day, along with Julie and Julia, and the pack of deer that continually graze in our yard. Morning glory muffins are wrapped tight on a platter, next to impromptu Italian leftovers. And many sighs, smiles, giggles, and "Oh, how I love to be a girl" trail throughout the day. It is our snow day. It is our day packed away in our nested little house on Hillandale, cozied beneath a white dress of frozen snow.
